芝山細工 象の床飾り 【Elephant ornament for Tokonoma, inlaid SHIBAYAMA-style】
長い鼻で水晶玉を高々と持ち上げる象の姿が印象的な芝山象嵌の床飾りです。
身につけた装飾には象牙、貝殻、珊瑚、玉などが鏤められています。
背中には青海波文様と唐草文様が彫られた敷物が置かれ、珊瑚玉が付けられています。
幕のように垂らした両側の敷物には水辺に舞う蝶と葵の葉のような図、たっぷりとした房飾りは貝で表現されています。
細やかに象嵌された一つ一つの装飾が煌びやかで大変美しい作品です。
芝山象嵌は、江戸時代後期に始まり、漆や象牙、木彫などの地に貝、珊瑚、象牙、べっ甲などを立体的に嵌め込み、花鳥や人物などを華やかに表現した装飾技法です。
将軍家や大名家、富裕な商人の間で調度品として人気を博し、慶応2年のパリ万博で日本の文化や工芸品が紹介されるとヨーロッパはジャポニズムブームに沸き立ちます。
なかでも芝山象嵌は『東洋のモザイク』と呼ばれ、その超絶技巧と華やかな美しさで世界中の人々を魅了しました。

【Description】
The ornament for alcove(tokonoma) made with the inlaid SHIBAYAMA-technique.
This technique is started in the later Edo period. It mainly expresses portraits and landscape sterically on the lacquerware, ivory and wood carving using cells, coral, ivory, tortoiseshell and so on.
These works so popular as furnishings among the shogunate family, the Daimyo family and wealthy merchant. When Japanese culture and folk crafts were exhibited in Paris exposition in 1867, European countries were affected strongly by Japonism.
Especially SHIBAYAMA-inlaying has captured the hearts of people all over the world with it’s technique and beauty.
Accessaries this elephant wearing are inlaid ivory, shells, corals and more.
The carpet with arabesque and wave patterns is laid out on his back and coral ball is put on it.
Butterflies and leaves are depicted on a rug like a curtain on his side, and the tassels are expressed with shells.
Every decorations are inlaid finely one by one, and all of it are gorgeous and beautiful.
